No-Cost Utility Provides Convenient Access to PCI Express System Registers
San Jose, CA, July 14, 2005- Catalyst Enterprises, Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced design verification and test tools for PCI Express™, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial ATA (SATA), USB 2.0, and other technologies, today released Catalyst CatScan™, a no-cost, first of its kind utility application that scans, decodes, displays, and allows read/write access to PCI Express system configuration registers.

Catalyst CatScan Simplifies Access to Expanded Register Set
Devices on a PCI or PCI Express system identify themselves with various capabilities and statuses upon start-up of the system on which they reside, and during normal operation. These attributes are contained in specific registers and are often of keen interest to engineers working with PCI Express systems. On PCI systems, this information is limited to 256 bytes, is located at known, fixed offsets, and is easily accessed through a variety of software utilities. The PCI Express specification expands configuration space to 4K bytes and presents offset complexities relating to the location of various registers. Catalyst CatScan provides access to the full realm of configuration registers for all devices installed. Capabilities to scan, write, or even view previous scans offline are provided. Register types and specific data within registers are fully decoded in an intuitive format.
