Hot Swap extender cards allow the user to isolate voltages and signals to the UUT for Hot Swapping purposes while the system power stays on. The extender cards are designed to provide the required power on initialization to UUT every time the extender is turned on. The PCI Extender cards have the ability to provide signal level conversion for application where the signal level swing requirement is different from the system signal level swing, 3.3V <=> 5V. On board current to voltage converter allows the user to measure the current draw on various voltages by simply current measurement, using a voltmeter. On board over current circuitry is provided to prevent damage to the system motherboard in cases where a UUT has a fault. On board jumpers are provided to allow the user to supply custom voltages allowing for voltage margin testing.
Catalyst provides utility software designed to be used with Hot Swap extender cards. The purpose of the Catalyst utility software is to provide software control for On-Off power control of the UUT and to read & re-write UUT configuration registers, eliminating the need for rebooting. For more details, please see the document Hot Swapping PCI cards using Active Extenders and Utilities Software.
