Full-featured analysis tool and entry-level price point promise to broaden the market for Wireless USB debug tools
USB - IF Compliance Workshop, Milpitas, CA, January 30, 2007—Catalyst Enterprises, Inc., a leading provider of advanced design verification and test tools for USB 2.0, Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial ATA (SATA), PCI Express™, and other high performance I/O technologies, today announced shipment of the AirCom™ UWB Protocol Analyzer, an Ultra-Wideband protocol analyzer/generator solution for WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB. The AirCom analysis platform is fully compliant with MBOA PHY spec v1.1 and reliably captures WiMedia traffic over-the-air at transfer rates from 53.3 Mbps to 480 Mbps.
"The WiMedia MAC layer is quite sophisticated. The AirCom Analyzer includes the Spec View display which shows packets exactly like they appear in the Wireless USB specification and really simplifies our analysis tasks," said Michael Ngo, Vice-President of Engineering at Focus Enhancements. "AirCom's frame generator capability is also useful for recreating specific traffic scenarios or testing marginal timing conditions."
"We're introducing AirCom as the first affordable analysis tool for UWB technology," said Mike Micheletti, Catalyst Product Manager for Ultra-Wideband. "With Certified Wireless USB chipsets starting to sample, AirCom is uniquely positioned to address the broader device integration market. Featuring our industry-proven approach to showing layered protocol traffic, AirCom makes it easy to understand events at the Wireless USB level."
The small, portable AirCom system is controlled by a separate PC connection via USB 2.0 or Ethernet (LAN). The FPGA-based analysis engine is field upgradeable. An integrated frame generator is included with the analyzer and can transmit arbitrary patterns with full control of MAC, PHY, and beacon headers, plus WiMedia packets.
The AirCom software can display events either chronologically or hierarchically at the Wireless USB layer. Captured packets are displayed in a variety of formats, from raw binary, hex, or with detailed, fully decoded, field-by-field descriptions. The Easy mode operation provides menu-driven selection of common trigger events for WiMedia and Wireless USB protocol. The systems can trigger in real time on nine unique protocol errors and highlight additional invalid traffic conditions through post processing. A full complement of search and reporting tools provide easy navigation of large traces.
